Scientific name: Prosopis pallida
MESQUITE is a Peruvian carob that has been grown in the North of Peru for centuries. Its pod is a great source of proteins, fiber (pectin and lignin), vitamins (A, B1, B2 and D) and minerals (Iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, potassium and phosphorus). This product is well known as ALGARROBINA and is used as syrup in pastry, natural sweetener for juices and shakes, drinks and topping.
Mesquite is a high-protein, highly nutritious food, rich in iron, lysine, manganese, potassium, and zinc. Studies have shown that diets rich in potassium, an essential mineral and electrolyte, can help to prevent stroke and high blood pressure, and increase bone mineral density.
